From the above, it is reasonable to suggest that the production of silicon powder from a single crystalline silicon wafer, using a vibratory disc mill in a topdown synthesis route, starts with cleavage of the wafer along its preferred orientation, followed by a gradual attrition of the particles surfaces toward the smaller particle size, reaching a fairly constant size distribution after about 3 hours of milling.
