Coal reserves are an abundant resource in Tanzania. A conservative estimate is billion tons with 25 percent proven reserves; however, Tanzania is estimated to hold a potential of up to 5 billion tons. Coal sites include Kiwira, Mchuchuma/Katewaka, Ngaka, Rukwa and around Lake Victoria.
