The Essakane Main Zone (EMZ) is currently the largest known gold deposit in Burkina Faso. Gold occurs in a quartz vein stockwork within an anticlinally folded succession of Birimianage arenite and argillite. The main arenite (5070m thick) is the economically most important rock type within the EMZ.
